    Profile

    KENTARO!!

    Choreographer, Dancer

Born in 1980, KENTARO!! is leader of Tokyo Electrock Stairs. When he was an elementary school pupil, he watched and was struck by a TV dance competition show (“Dance Koshien”); since then he started dancing by watching and imitating the performers. At 13 he began to study dance more seriously at a dance school, and has been focusing on hip hop, lock dance and house.

KENTARO!! bases on techniques of mainly hip hop, but his expression is unique, quite unlike the existing stylized expressions. In recent years he creates dance music, allowing him to widen the range of his expression, for which he has received wide acclaim. His dance and music inspire people of all ages, regardless of gender, and remain deep in their memories.

In 2008 at Yokohama Dance Collection R, KENTARO!! won “The French Embassy Prize for Young Choreographers.” He also received “The Audience Award and Next Age Special Award” at Toyota Choreography Award 2008. In 2010 he received “The Japan Dance Forum Award.”

He performed in many cities and at different festivals in overseas such as Seoul International Dance Festival (Korea), Indonesia Dance Festival (Indonesia), HongKong Arts Festival (HongKong), Busan International Dance Festival (Korea), and in Marseilles, Montpellier, Nimes, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany and India.
