PRESS RELEASE

Emerging Artist Series 01: CAMAMOTO

The Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam proudly presents an art exhibition “On Each Milestone” by CAMAMOTO, a collaborative art unit formed by two artists: Hoang Duong Cam (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam / b.1974) and Takayuki Yamamoto (Nagoya, Japan / b. 1974).

The exhibition is a part of the project entitled “Emerging Artist Series,” in which the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam aims to introduce young promising artists to broader audience (the project will be held three or four times a year).

Mr. Cam & Mr. Yamamoto met each other during the artist-in-residence program in Tokyo (JENESYS creator invitation program for Mr. Cam), and got mutually interested in the performative aspects of each other’s characters and growing / living conditions. Both were born in same year, but in different countries. Both are Asian artists but have different cultural background. Both were raised in a single parent family but one with father, another with mother.

The interestingly twisted resembles and differences inspired them to find another oneself within the other artist’s body and mind, and CAMAMOTO (CAM + YAMAMOTO = CAMAMOTO) started to explore the probability of alternative life, humorously playing roles of imaginary twin brothers through video work, live performance, etc.

In this exhibition, latest video works, in which two documentary / fiction story lines are screened simultaneously in two channels, as well as photograph installation, will be shown to grasp the development and unique achievement of the art unit CAMAMOTO, who will also participate in the upcoming international art triennale, AICHI TRIENNALE 2010 in Japan.

The opening, including live performance by CAMAMOTO, will be held at 18:00 on Friday 23 July at the Exhibition Hall of the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam. It runs until Wednesday 4 August.
